Next school year, around 19 AFS exchange students from around the world will come to Howard County for a life-changing year. You can help your family to learn about another part of the world! Host families volunteer to provide room and board for a student and get to know a great kid. Exchange students attend your local high school. Students are available from countries around the world, such as Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Iceland, Portugal, and Spain.
ARTreach is a fun, FREE one-day family festival!
ARTreach will feature live music and children's performances, visual artist demonstrations, hands-on arts activities, magicians and stilt walkers, caricaturists, a photo booth, face painters and more! Admission is free and so are all the activities!

We are recruiting participants between 8 to 17 years old to participate in a research study to learn if there are differences between the brain’s structure and its function in children and adolescents with and without Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Tourette Syndrome (TS) and Reading Disabilities.
This is a great opportunity for children and adolescents to learn about research and play an active role in scientific exploration!
The Teen Ambassador Program (TAP) provides leadership experience, professional development skills, and service hours to incoming 9th-12th graders. Through TAP, participants learn about non-profits, advocacy, and using their personal voice. They participate in hands-on service in our kitchen and a final project to help further the mission of Meals on Wheels. Learning sessions and volunteering takes place at our main office in Highlandtown: 515 S. Haven Street, Baltimore, MD 21224.
Options for All, is a research study focused on the educational experiences of expecting and parenting teens in Maryland. The results will be used to inform practice and how we better support young parents across the state. We are recruiting young people ages 15 to 19 years old. Participants will be asked to complete a brief (15 min) online survey and then an individual interview. Youth can decide to participate in one or both parts of the study. They will be compensated up to $50 for their time.

J Camps, located at the JCC of Greater Baltimore, is looking for energetic, dedicated staff members who are interested in working in a fun, creative camp environment this summer. Our training includes child development workshops, skill sharing, and certification in Water Safety training and CPR.
HC DrugFree is providing another series of skills-based classes designed to promote positive health and personal development for students in grades 6 to 9. For slightly younger or older students, requests will be considered as space is available, so please register student and wait for a response. Siblings and friends are encouraged to attend together. Taught by professional staff and older students. Younger students listen to and learn from trusted older students. Eight Zoom classes will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 10 - June 2.

Debates on non-binary gender identities covering topics ranging from bathroom bills and educational curriculum to Sam Smith and Caitlyn Jenner have been grounded in assumptions of a binary biological classification of sex, with the supposition that gender fluidity is fundamentally unsupported by the sex-binary. Except, sex isn’t binary. This presentation will illustrate the differences between the identification of sex and gender and establish that the biological reality of non-binary sex has always been part of humanity.
The Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC) provides access to nutritious food through the operation of its Howard County Food Bank and the support food pantries throughout Howard County, as well as by assisting clients with their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) applications. In addition, CAC operates a Community Garden, which provides locally grown, organic produce to clients of the Howard County Food Bank.
