Girls on Fire Mentoring, Enrichment and Leadership Programs ( Girls 8-13)

The Girls on Fire Mentoring, Enrichment, and Leadership programs (referred to as GOF) serves girls 8-10 and middle school ( 11-13 ( tweens).  GOF programming for each age group is distinctly different however each is designed to build self-esteem, confidence and, develop the leadership capacity.  While mentoring is the focus, education enrichment services are also offered.  In addition, students  engage in various creative art forms in class and in partnership with the Columbia Art Center.

While we offer 1-1- mentoring,  group mentoring has been the  most effective for these age groups. In this setting, girls find a safe place  to develop life skills, build healthy supportive relationships, discover their gifting and talents and mature.

Each session’s follow through consists of an art activity to reinforce the learning objective.

GOF Tweens (11-13) focus is primarily promotes positive youth development. Tweens (adolescent) years are some of the most challenging. Girls are confronted with self-esteem challenges greater than any age group. They are in an awkward developmental stage. Bodies are maturing and they tend to struggle with self-image and peer approval and comparison. Because of this, they meet at least 2-3 times a month. A variety of topics are discussed and led by professional mentor facilitators such as self-love, developing a positive self-image, conflict resolution, self-care, health, fitness and nutrition, developing healthy relationship, communication, among others. Many also participate in the mental health support group following each mentoring session.
