Organization
The Be SMART campaign focuses on education and awareness about child gun deaths and secure gun storage. Be SMART volunteers encourage parents and caretakers to “Be SMART” and take these five simple steps to help prevent shootings by children:
S- Secure (Secure guns in homes and vehicles)
M- Model (Model appropriate behavior around firearms)
A- Ask (Ask others if they have unsecured guns in the homes where your child spends time)
R- Recognize (Recognize the role of guns in suicides)
T- Tell (Tell others to Be SMART!)
We can offer printed materials at health fairs and can provide informative 20 min powerpoint presentations for parents. Studies show that secure firearm storage in homes makes schools safer. Help us spread the word to Be SMART!
