Pollinator StoryWalk at the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area

In celebration of National Pollinator Week, visit the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area June 17-25 to enjoy a StoryWalk® featuring Flower Talk: How Plants Use Color to Communicate by Sara Levine and illustrated by Masha D’yans. A StoryWalk® is a deconstructed children’s book made into signs placed along a trail where visitors can stroll and follow the story from page to page. The StoryWalk® is free, self-guided, and open from sunrise to sunset. The trail starts at the Trotter Road entrance. Trails are unpaved.  

Dragon Boat Festival

Join us on Sunday, June 4th, from 4 to 8 PM at the YMCA Dancel Center for the Dragon Boat Festival celebration! Indulge in traditional zongzi, explore the festival's origins, and be captivated by mesmerizing Chinese music, dance, and Tai Chi performances. Get active with rock climbing and a lively Zumba class. Engage in the art of calligraphy, Chinese painting, and zongzi wrapping. Tantalize your taste buds with a variety of Asian cuisine from local restaurants. This event promises an unforgettable experience for you and your loved ones.

AAPI Heritage Month: Celebrating the Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Diaspora

In recognition of Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the Office of Human Rights & Equity (OHRE) is hosting “Transpacific Origins: Celebrating the Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Diaspora.” This event is to center Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, creating a space that will honor their ancestry, their histories, and their identities.

Health Fair and Blood Drive

Glen Mar is hosting a health fair and blood drive from 11 to 3 on Saturday, May 20, 2023.  Everyone is welcome and it is free to the public.  It will make our community a more resilient and healthier place for all of us.  Pre-registration strongly recommended, but walk-ins accepted as time slots allow.  The scheduled health-related services are:

Dragon Boat Festival

Celebrate Duanwu Jie (Dragon Boat Festival) with the Chinese American Parent Association at the YMCA Dancel Center on June 4th 4-8pm. Enjoy traditional Duanwu Jie food (Zongzi) and family-friendly activities like swimming and wall climbing. Experience the beauty of Chinese music and dance, and learn about the festival. You will even get a chance to learn how to wrap a Zongzi! Asian foods will also be available for purchase. Don't miss out on this opportunity to immerse yourself in Chinese culture and create lasting memories with your loved ones.

Bayside Big Band to Perform Free

Bayside Big Band Concert will perform in Glen Mar Church’s Summer Concert Series on Friday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Mar Church. This free concert will be held outside unless there is a weather issue. Bring chairs and/or blankets. If it rains this event will be held inside Glen Mar’s Spirit Center.  Two food trucks, Greek on the Street and Kona Ice, will be available from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
