Howard County Food Bank

The Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC) provides access to nutritious food through the operation of its Howard County Food Bank and the support  food pantries throughout Howard County, as well as by assisting clients with their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) applications. In addition, CAC operates a Community Garden, which provides locally grown, organic produce to clients of the Howard County Food Bank.

 

Housing, Energy and Weatherization Assistance

The Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC) offers financial support to families that are struggling with electric and fuel costs through our energy assistance program. CAC’s weatherization assistance program permanently reduces energy bills by making the home more energy efficient. CAC’s housing assistance program provides one-time financial support to prevent eviction or assist with rent.

Early Childhood Education (Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten)

The Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC) operates an early childhood education program that encompasses both Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten classrooms. CAC’s education program is full-day and full-year (51 weeks) and is designed to prepare students socially, emotionally and academically for kindergarten. It also has a focus on family engagement and forming partnerships between parents and staff that promote family stability, reduce stressors and connect families to critical family resources.

Howard County Recreation & Parks offers online and in-person programs for Howard County residents and visitors of all ages and interests.

Aquatics, Adventure, Nature & Outdoors, Chess, Cooking, Crafts & Fine Arts, Dance, Language, Music & Theater Arts, Personal Development & Enrichment, School's Out Programs, Science & Technology, Sports, and Therapeutic Recreation & Inclusion Services.

Online Classes - Howard County Library System

Classes accessible for free through the library.

(Note: Some classes require the entry with your library card by logging in to the Howard County Library System website with your library card and PIN. While branches are closed, students and/or parents/guardians without a current HCLS library card may request one online.) – Classes in Language, Computer Skills, Art, Music, Test Prep classes and more!

NFRC Clinical Programs: Support groups; KidsConnex educational program; individual and family therapy

The National Family Resiliency Center (NFRC) is a Comprehensive Mental Health Center Offering an Array of Therapy Services & Support Groups for All Ages.

Our licensed counselors have decades-long experience working with individuals and families who are affected by family transitions. You don't have to go through it alone. Our therapists will help you and/or your family move through each stage of the transition and accept that change is a normal part of life.
